Volunteers ~ The Heart of our Community

Updated: Apr 23, 2022

Where would we be without volunteers? When we look at the data and benefits of volunteering, we see that those who participate in helping people in difficult or challenging circumstances are making an enormous difference in our communities in an incredibly positive way.

Volunteering Australia reported for 2020 the following details:

"Across Australia, it is estimated that nearly 6 million (5.897 million) people volunteer through an organisation annually. This is almost one third (29.5%) of people aged 15 years and over."

The amount of time and effort that people put into volunteering has a tremendous impact throughout our community and is necessary to keep our towns, cities, and nation vibrant, healthy, and functional.

"Volunteering contributes a whopping $290 billion to the Australian economy each year"

Volunteering has so many benefits to an individual and to the recipients who are being helped. There is something to be said when a person helps those who are less fortunate without requiring anything in return, the satisfaction in wanting to make a difference in a person's life is extremely rewarding.

In an ever-changing world there are circumstances and situations that happen in people's lives where they need a service which requires someone to walk alongside them through it. Volunteering alleviates stress, isolation, and loneliness, providing a sense of purpose and accomplishment. It enables a person to support and help those in need, instilling a sense of fulfilment in feeling part of their community.

At Safe Haven Community we help women who are in coercive domestic and family violence to be able to come out of it and build a different, better life for themselves. We appreciate our volunteers so very much, whether it is supporting women as they attend court or provide a safe place for them to breathe after a court session, we believe that every bit makes a difference.
